Who we are

Founders Statement :
Inspired by my son James McGreevy, the KRDA has the principal objective of providing children between the age of 5 and 16 years from resource poor and disadvantaged backgrounds in Kibera Slums with opportunities to access, train and participate in the game of rugby, through mini tag and rugby training.

The programme gives the children from the Kibera some of the life skills that will give them a track out of poverty. It also develops young rugby talent in Kenya. In addition to rugby skills and disciplines, we also provide spiritual and nutritional nourishment for all the young boys and girls.

Our first academy has 250 children from Kibera, who are trained every Sunday by a roster of 30+ IRB World Rugby certified coaches and facilitators. They are drawn from various leading rugby clubs in Nairobi and the National 7’s and 15’s team. We internationally partner with The Old Ruts (Rutlishians)RFC, Rutlish School, London and the Lunchbowl Network.

We have a vision for 10 Kings Rugby Development Academies changing the lives of 2,500 children from the Kibera. We provide a route out of extreme poverty through sport and education.

The Ambassadors Network is aimed at providing the necessary financial, educational and talent development platform and resources. The Academies will provide a youth talent platform for young players to progress into local rugby clubs and National teams.

We have been involved for over 15 years in Kibera with several social programs. We have identified some of the poorest of the poor, orphaned and vulnerable children to engage with the Sunday rugby development programme. This is held at Hillcrest International School in Nairobi, Kenya.

Kings Rugby Development Academy (KRDA) is a charitable trust registered in Kenya and started its first pilot session on May 8th 2016 and was officially launched in April 2017 in Nairobi by Jason Leonard, OBE, former Rugby World Cup Winner and England RFU President.

By being part of the KRDA Ambassador Network, you will touch a child’s life and give an opportunity for the child to have a better future.

Thank you for joining the team!

Be an Ambassador :
You can make a difference. Be an Ambassador-create a brighter future

The KRDA brings hope to the orphaned and extremely vulnerable children between the ages of 5 and 16 years who have a passion for Rugby. The children are given a chance to escape their harsh reality. The KRDA imparts life skills and aids the development of the whole person: physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. It provides discipline, self-dignity and an understanding of a positive community.

As an Ambassador, you can champion and promote the KRDA rugby children in your local rugby clubs, schools and businesses. Becoming an Ambassador on behalf of the KRDA to your club and community will help to provide a hand up from poverty for these young people. The children are in desperate need of food, coaches, kit, facilities and transport. With your commitment and the rugby family around the world, you can help these needs be met.

We have 250+ children who attend the KRDA, their lives are being significantly impacted. They literally come out of the Kibera, the largest slum in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is a clear statement to them that their future is not destined to be in poverty. Help them escape the Kibera on a Sunday and send the children to school.

Going to school is impossible for many young people in the Kibera. The absolute lack of money, through no fault of their own, means that they cannot ever leave the Kibera or attend school. They miss out on the essential benefits schooling provides. This limits their capacity and future. Through your help, you can have a life changing impact on the lives of these young people.

You can choose to send a child to the Sunday Rugby Programme and/or school termly or annually. Every step out of poverty counts.

Become a Part of Something Bigger. Together, we’re creating a future where all children have a chance to succeed. Join Us!
